ICON Information Consultants, LP, a provider of human capital solutions, consulting, payroll, and professional services, announced today that its President and CEO, Pamela Chambers O’Rourke, was honored with a Distinguished Alumni Award at The University of Houston Alumni Association 62nd Annual Awards Gala.
Each year, the Houston Alumni Association recognizes alumni who are prominent leaders in their fields. From professional accomplishments to history in service, their achievements are recognized in three categories, the Distinguished Alumni Award, the Distinguished Service Award, and the Outstanding Volunteer Award. The event is an opportunity to meet and greet some of the University of Houston’s best and brightest alumni.
O’Rourke received the Distinguished Alumni Award, given to those alums whose professional accomplishments bring prestige to the university. The Association recognizes that O’Rourke has received numerous business awards over the years, including the U.S. Small Business Administration’s 2005 “Women in Business Champion of the Year” and the “Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year 2009 Award” in the Business Services and Staffing category for the Houston and Gulf Coast Area. She has been awarded annually in the 50 Fastest-Growing Women-Owned/Led Companies list by the Women Presidents’ Organization and American Express.
“I am always appreciative of any recognition, but receiving this award from the University of Houston Alumni Association is a special honor,” said O’Rourke when reflecting on the ceremony. “Being an entrepreneur is the best decision I ever made. At UH, I began to form the guiding principles that I followed when I started my business 18 years ago—unwavering tenacity, the pursuit of excellence, and community support. I learned early on that the bar always has to be high and you need to keep the hunger alive if you want to continue to achieve. You always need to be reaching.”
A native Houstonian, O’Rourke received her Management Information Systems (MIS) degree at the University of Houston while working a full-time information technology job. She founded ICON Information Consultants, LP in 1998 to fulfill her vision of what a consulting company should be. ICON Information Consultants has enjoyed consistent growth — often in double digits — since 1998, and now has over 3,000 consultants across the U.S. and Canada and over $260 million in revenue for 2015.
O’Rourke views education as the foundation of life’s success. As a University of Houston alumnus, she sponsors UH events and scholarships. Additionally, she served as a Board Member of AVANCE-Houston, an organization that enhances parenting skills by promoting family literacy and early childhood development.
